This was one of my must-do when I was planning on where to go - Paradise Dynasty. Finally a dumpling store that gives Din Tai Fung a run for their money. I specifically came for their 8 flavours of xiao long bao.
I love how they have different flavours. It works out cheaper to get specific ones but for first timers, I think its best to give the tasting platter version a try.
I really should have read the sign I photographed before I ate because it clearly shows the order in which to eat them. We just dove right in and it might have slightly ruined our experience. My favourite has to be the foie gras, black truffle and crab roe. Really great meal to start off the day.
The décor was nice and service was prompt. Though I hated how they whack on all the service charges at the end and the bill was blown out another 10-15%.
We didn't think the dumplings would have been enough so they were accompanied by Assorted Beef and Organs in Szechaun sauce and La Mian with Mince Meat and Mushroom sauce. The Beef and Organs wasn't my cup of tea. I ate it but I don't like Szechaun chilli because it leaves an annoying numb taste in my mouth and to me that's not a pleasant chilli experience. The La Mian was nice but it all tasted a bit like an Asian spaghetti.
My next find was something mentioned to me in passing about a Japanese burger joint that also has a shop up in QLD - Mos Burger. I think I'm in love. I love my burgers.
The Mos Burgers in Singapore seem to only hire elderly workers. Everyone working there was easily over 50. It's nice to not only see elderly people at the casinos or RSLs. Slightly slower service but they spoke enough English to take down my order. Would have been nice to be served with a smile.
Left: Mos Burger with Cheese
Right: Chicken Karage Burger on Rice Patties
The Mos burger was nice. The cheese was horrid though. Like a slice of Kraft Singles that's cold and not melted. Loved how saucy the burger was - at least it wasn't bland.
The Chicken Karage was nice and flavoursome. The rice patties on the outside made it feel like a meal all in your hand. The rice was a bit bland so if you didn't manage to get a bit of chicken in your bite, it can taste quite underwhelming.
Overall it was definitely a place I'd visit again... and I did.
So our late night snack meant hawker foods and beer. I'm so glad I decided to try this as it sounded absolutely great especially when I'm half tipsy and still hungry - Oyster Omelette. We didn't know was it a stupid idea to eat seafood at a hawker (especially on the night before our flight) but the alcohol gave me the courage to push me over. I really enjoyed it. Perfect dish to pair up with my Tiger beer.
