Balut

So people seem to be more interested in weird foods and after watching Hamish and Andy I realised that I had this blog saved up just for that very occasion.
This is balut. Its a boiled fertilized egg that's popular in parts of Asia. It's a developing duck embryo that's boiled alive and eaten in the shell. This is a popular street food in Philippines but also commonly found in South Eastern countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. To be honest, most people can't stomach this if they never grew up with it.
The word balut means wrapped. I personally don't like it and had a failed attempt eating it. My fiancee likes the soup and egg but doesn't eat the embryo.
The way to eat it is to break the shell, sip the soup and then peel the shell to reveal the delicacy inside: the yolk and young chick. All the contents inside can be eaten except the egg white, usually because it's too hard. To season this, it is normally paired up with salt or garlic/chilli.
After being able to see the face and shape of the embryo.. I gave up like a pansy... you win this round food!
